Software development for Scientific Computing and Libraries

1973-1975

Research assistant at the EDPC of the Freie Universität Berlin:
Responsible for the areas compiler, symbolic languages, operating systems, statistic software, advisory boards and committee work

1975-1981

Research Assistant at the Dept. of Business Studies of the Freie Universität Berlin, Institute for Statistics and Econometrics:
Teaching and research duties in the area DP/Business IT and information systems, setting up an online IT infrastructure for the dept., research in the fields of program development (PhD), studied theoretical Information Science

1982

PhD in the field of program structures, their visualization and implementation for program development (summa cum laude); independent teaching of courses and seminars in the discipline of Business IT  

1982-1988

Setting up a IT infrastructure network for the Dept. of Business Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin (PCs, mini-PCs, IT network), setting up and operating the first CIP-Pool and the first WAP-Pool for scientists and academics of the Freie Universität (external funding projects (federal govt., industry)); advisory boards and committee work (responsible for DP, Technical Commission of the ZEDAT); independent teaching of courses and seminars in the discipline of Business IT (programming languages, system analysis, software engineering)

Establishment, set-up and Managing Director of Division VIII of the Central University Administration of the Freie Universität Berlin (ZUV-VIII: Center for Digital Systems (CeDiS)): Migration of the centralized and decentralized IT working areas, organizing ZUV-VIII as a central IT dept. for operative IT systems (HIS, SAP, office communication), drafting and implementing an IT strategy for the administrative DP, introducing SAP to Human Resources; broadening the research activities in the field of multimedia/e-learning, procuring and managing joint e-learning research projects (BMBF – Federal Ministry of Education and Research), advisory boards and committee work

Establishment, set-up and Managing Director of the Competence Center e-Learning/ Multimedia of the Freie Universität Berlin: Drafting of a university-wide strategy for e-learning at the Freie Universität, introduction of a central LMS and CMS as well as central multimedia services, introduction of e-publishing; procuring e-learning projects (FUeL) that are externally funded, organization of scientific conferences and academic symposia, setting up intl. cooperation networks, member of the executive board of the university
