About CeDiS
The Center for Digital Systems (CeDiS) is the e-learning, e-research and multimedia competence center at Freie Universität Berlin. We provide the university’s departments and institutions with central services as well as customized solutions and individual user support with regard to e-learning, content management, social software, Open Access, and media design.
CeDiS continues to develop its core competencies through projects funded by the university steering board and/or third parties. The university steering board has also entrusted CeDiS with designing its new public face and facilitating the use of the new Corporate Design. E-Learning
At Freie Universitaet we believe that e-learning can enrich and enhance academic face-to-face education. Advancing and furthering blended learning as part of the university’s general e-learning strategy is CeDiS’s principal task. In cooperation with the university departments, the e-learning competence center aims at promoting multimedia teaching and learning methods to establish e-learning as common and integral part of academic instruction.
CeDiS provides web solutions for teaching and learning, and renders support, training, and consultancy services ranging from phone support for the central learning management system (LMS) to a wide range of trainings, and finally to comprehensive individual consulting. Furthermore, CeDiS manages the university board’s e-learning development scheme.

Content Management
CeDiS provides all university departments, institutes, and services with a content management system (CMS) and assists them with building and maintaining their websites with ease.

Web 2.0
Web 2.0 describes the trend to use the internet to enhance creativity, communications, secure information sharing, and collaboration. Our web 2.0 team examines the latest trends such as social software and community platforms to find services that add value to our portfolio of e-learning and e-research offers. Our blog system is the first central web 2.0 service we render to university members.

E-Publishing / Open Access
CeDiS’s latest field of activity deals with electronic academic publishing and open access. Our goal is to render comprehensive information and consultancy services regarding e-publishing and virtual communities, and to support related projects.

Audiovisual Media
Our new audiovisual media team assists researchers and instructors with creating and developing audio and video media for research and education. We are planning to provide the following services:
- Resources: a collection of interdisciplinary and subject-specific materials
- Consulting services: preparing and developing audio and video media for e-learning
- Enabling: user support in choosing and/or producting material
- Infrastructure: optimized network resource allocation to audio & video media
- Workshops: get professional assistance on the third Friday of every month

Design
Our designers add an attractive and functional appearance to e-learning materials, websites, and print publications . They have also created the university’s new corporate design (effective as of fall 2005) and assist in adapting print and web publications to it.
