As part of the newly founded European university alliance "Una Europa", which aims to intensify cooperation in the field of teaching and learning, Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) is participating in the joint project "Online Pedagogical Resources for European Universities" (OpenU). It aims to foster the internationalisation of teaching through virtual and blended mobility formats between the participating partner universities, e.g. through joint online seminars, online courses or joint degrees. The joint digital teaching and learning offers are to contribute to enabling international experiences for all students and, if possible, to simplify the transition to physical mobility.

The operational goal of the project is to develop a European-wide digital platform/middleware, called "BLOOM", which will support the design and implementation of mobility formats in Una Europa and the European Higher Education Area. BLOOM should, for example, increase the visibility of digital teaching and learning offers of the universities, enable access to digital infrastructures of the partners, simplify processes of student and staff journeys and provide good practices for international e-learning. BLOOM will build on the strengths of existing digital solutions and infrastructures at the participating universities.

In the first trial phase in the winter semester 2021/22, we would like to determine the potentials and challenges of individual virtual (exchange) mobility in the pilot project "Virtual Student Journeys". In addition, the project will identify the needs of students, teaching staff, and employees of Freie Universität Berlin and of KU Leuven for the planned digital platform.

In the second trial phase in the summer semester of 2022, the focus will be on teaching cooperation projects with the partner universities of Una Europa.

The project is funded by the European Union within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme. The Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne is the project leader in the consortium.
